Welcome to the M.A.D Marketing Awards for 2022.
In 2022, the marketing landscape has been shaken, and stirred, by the acceleration of new marketing methods such as influencer marketing and short-form video.
Social media managers and marketers alike have thrown everything they had at their marketing efforts this year in order to increase engagement, boost brand awareness, and establish their space in an overcrowded market.
This year we’ve seen social media platforms fall from grace and we’ve seen them rise through the ranks.
We have seen brands successfully guide their consumers through hardship and we’ve seen them scramble to get out of deep water.
We have seen many marketing campaigns that have inspired, motivated, and moved consumers alongside marketing campaigns that missed the mark.
But who is worthy of taking home the trophy? This is the M.A.D Marketing Awards and here are this year’s winners.
TikTok- The clock app has grown in popularity year on year, but has it done enough to come out on top?
Instagram- One of TikTok’s biggest competitors, could they take the crown?
Facebook- Old but gold, can Facebook continue to reign as king?
Facebook! Yes, Facebook is the most popular social media platform in 2022 with over 2.93 billion active users.
Facebook is a great marketing tool for businesses and brands. With the largest social media base, B2B and B2C alignment, and a variety of ad formats, going into 2023 marketers should not dismiss or overlook the power of Facebook marketing.
BeReal- A new face on the scene, this app drives authenticity online. Will BeReal stand the test of time?
TikTok- An app still in its infancy, does TikTok have what it takes?
Shuffles by Pinterest- Launched in July 2022, Shuffles allows users to create collages together. Ideal for brand collaboration, will Shuffles get its moment of glory?
TikTok! Founded in 2016, TikTok is just six years old with the world at its feet. This year it wins the best upcoming social media platform award, but does it have what it takes to compete with the big dogs in 2023?
In 2022, only 45 per cent of brands used TikTok marketing due to the misconception TikTok is only for Gen Z audiences. However, with over 30 million daily active users, viral video trends, and a varied consumer base, TikTok is a great way to promote your business or brand.
Twitter- Wasn’t it kinda obvious?
…Yea… Twitter is all we have here.
Twitter! Yes, we all saw it coming. Disaster struck at Twitter headquarters this year when Elon Musk fired half of Twitter workers during his social media platform takeover deal.
It is expected he will pay a hefty price for his outburst as the number of Twitter users is predicted to fall by 4 per cent in 2023, and 5 per cent in 2024.
Repurpose old content– Create something once and distribute it forever.
Get inspiration from outside your industry- What’s working for content creators outside of your industry and how can you make it relevant?
Champion social responsibility- Brands that take a stand on important social issues gain consumer trust and loyalty.
Champion social responsibility! In this category, all nominees deserve a notable mention. Going into 2023 all three marketing tips, along with many others, will continue to be important and allow brands to succeed in a digital creative space.
However, more now than ever, brands have a responsibility to stand up for and speak out against social and environmental issues. Studies show consumers want to know what brands are doing to tackle important issues and in 2023, will pay attention to brand advocacy before making a purchase.
Short-form video- Is short-form video really king in 2022?
Influencer marketing- A rather new addition to brand marketing strategy, can influencer marketing win the prize?
Virtual events- Live streams, Zoom events, and virtual conferences, 2022 has seen it all, but will it come out on top?
Short-from video! Without a doubt, short-from video has been a driving force in the marketing world this year thanks to TikTok and social media features such as Instagram Reels, and Youtube Shorts.
In 2023, short-form video will continue its reign as it is deemed the most powerful marketing tool. Short-form video is both quick and easy to create and can be entertaining, informative, and authentic. Optimising and sharing short-form videos across multiple platforms can expand reach and land new customers.
Rachael! Rachael always comes equipped with an idea or two. This year Rachael has made many outstanding suggestions and come up with plenty of brilliant ideas. Rachael, you are a deserving winner.
Amy! Amy is taking home the trophy for the most voice notes sent this year with an average of 10 voice notes sent per day! But, we aren’t complaining, it’s always nice to hear a familiar voice during the work-from-home day.
Brooke! At any moment in time, you can bet Brooke probably has at least 17 tabs open which makes her the champion this round.
Marie! A little niche we know but if anyone is going to influence you to buy a Ninja Creami (in the winter) it’s Marie. Just trust us on this one!
