Rachael’s First Year at M.A.D

I know they say time flies when you’re having fun, but this is just ridiculous.

Somehow, in the blink of an eye, it’s been a whole year since I first started at M.A.D, and what a year it’s been!


I’ll admit, when I first started my role here, I had a big ol’ helping of imposter syndrome – I couldn’t believe that before I’d even finished my master’s degree, here I was, landing a job I’d only dreamed about.


It didn’t take long, however, for M.A.D to feel like home. I’ve always loved working in smaller, close-knit teams, and you can get much closer than our mini but mighty team.


Amy and Marie are top tier when it comes to bosses, and work colleagues. No question was ever too daft, no problem unable to be fixed – and it’s because of them I’ve quickly found my feet in this wonderful industry (I promise, they aren’t paying me to say this).


So, what have I learned?


So. Much. Stuff.

The comms world is one of those amazing places where no matter how much you think you know, there’s always so much more to learn because it’s always evolving. There really is never a dull moment, and with the wonderfully eclectic mix of clients and projects that I get to work with, there’s something new to discover every day.


An area of my development that I really wanted to get stuck into when I began my time with M.A.D was design. Working on such different projects, all with very different design requirements and specifications has given me the opportunity to really build on those skills and my confidence at being able to come up with a really kick-a** piece of content.


I’ve gotten to chat with clients from all over the world, learn about industries I never thought I’d experience, and immerse myself in the PR and comms world in a way I could never have imagined, and I can’t wait to see how I’ll continue to develop as the years go on!


My personal highlights


There have been too many to list them all here, but the first time I saw my content published on a globally known client’s website (shhhh, I’m not allowed to say who) gave me, and continues to give me such a buzz.


Landing my first piece of client coverage was also an amazing experience and getting to see my content dotted on our client’s social media across all different corners of the internet & people positively engaging with it is the BEST feeling ever.


Myself, Amy and Marie also recently got the opportunity to run a workshop at the University of Sunderland which was a little surreal and nerve-wracking, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to do more talks and workshops in the future!


Over everything else though, getting to be part of such a wonderful team, feeling completely supported and encouraged every day to exceed my potential and seeing that reflected in my work has been my highlight of highlights (shout out to Amy and Marie – again, not paid for this).


What’s next?


Ohhhhhhh the things we have planned. There is SO much exciting stuff we want to do in the next year. We’ll soon be expanding our team which is SUPER exciting, and will also give us a little more time to really focus on M.A.D’s growth.


I’m excited to continue to create great content with our amazing clients, and I can’t wait to see the weird and wonderful projects that our future clients have in store for us!
