Instagram’s new repost feature: what it means for your brand

8 August 2025

Instagram has finally introduced a native repost feature. And yes, it’s a big deal.

No more clunky workarounds. No more screenshots. No more third-party apps. You can now reshare feed posts and Reels directly to your own profile, and that opens up new doors for creators, marketers, and brands alike.

Here’s how to use Instagram’s new repost feature strategically.

What is the Instagram Repost feature?

Instagram’s repost tool lets you share someone else’s post or Reel directly to your own main profile feed, not just to your Stories.

Think of it like a retweet, only prettier.

When you repost, the original creator is credited, and the content appears in a dedicated “Reposts” tab on your profile, keeping things clean, clear, and fully attributed.

Why the repost tool matters for marketers

This update might seem simple, but for businesses and creators, it’s a powerful new content tool.

Here’s why:

More UGC, less hassle

You can now re-share user-generated content from fans, customers, or collaborators directly to your grid. No editing, no screenshots, no extra tools.

Amplify influencer and creator partnerships

Running a campaign? Now the content your partners create can live on your grid too, boosting visibility and engagement from both audiences.

Spotlight testimonials and press

Got a shoutout, review, or press mention? Repost it, give credit, and let your audience see the love, without creating new graphics from scratch.

Curate, don’t create (all the time)

Let’s be honest, content creation takes time. Now you can supplement your feed with high-quality, on-brand reposts that still feel curated and intentional.

Best practices for reposting on Instagram

Before you go wild with the repost button, a few things to note:

How to repost on Instagram

Follow these steps to repost a Reel or feed directly to your profile:

  1. Tap the repost icon underneath the Reel or post you want to share
  2. To add your own thoughts, tap the speech bubble by your profile picture on the bottom left
  3. Where it says ‘add a thought’, type any text you’d like to share
  4. Hit save – and you’re done!

It’s as easy as that! The Reel or post will be reposted an available in the reposts section of your profile. Just keep in mind that you can only repost reels or posts if the original creator has allowed reposts.

Smart strategy beats trendy tapping

This update makes Instagram a little friendlier for creators, but the same rules apply: strategy first. Reposts are a great tool, but they should complement your content, not replace it.

Use them to tell your story, build community, and amplify voices that matter to your brand.

So, should I use Instagram reposts?

Yes, but with strategy. Reposts should support your content, not replace it.
