How to optimise a website for AI | 2-minute read
AI’s no longer the future. It’s the now. Whether it’s Google’s Search Generative Experience or someone chatting with Siri while making toast, people aren’t typing into search engines anymore, they’re talking into them.
That means your website needs to stop speaking technical SEO jargon and start speaking like a human, but also a robot. We know, confusing right? But we’re about to show you how.
The old days of SEO were all about keywords. Things like, “Best SEO London”, “digital agency UK”. But AI doesn’t really care for keywords. It’s built to understand intent and the why behind someone’s search.
Search engines are now summarising results, answer questions instantly, and skim your content for meaning, not just keywords. If your site isn’t giving structured, clear, meaningful information, you’re out of the loop.
People now search in full sentences and out loud. Voice search pulls directly from well-written content. To be seen, your site needs to answer questions like a human would.
As we’ve mentioned people speak in full thoughts, not search terms. Your content should mirror how someone would say the question they’re trying to answer.
Natural language is a much better match with voice queries and AI processing. Plus, it’s nicer to read.
Instead of “SEO tips for 2025 site rankings”, try “What are the best SEO tips to rank in 2025?”.
Start building your content around actual questions your audience asks. Use tools like People Also Ask, Answer The Public, or even just Google.
Most AI-powered results pull from content that’s written as questions and answers. So, give them both. Use headings like “How do I..” or “What is…” to boost your chances of getting featured.
Your content should get to the point and do so fast. AI doesn’t want to dig through 300 words of fluff. Neither do humans.
Put your answer in the first sentence, then elaborate underneath.
Structure your content with dedicated FAQs to step by step guides. Search engines love this structure and AI understands it. Using these sections, AI can quickly identify what your page contains making it far more likely to surface in results.
Use H1, H2, H3s properly. Break things up with bullets, numbered lists, quotes, or tables. Think clarity, not clutter. AI uses your headings to categorise and understand the content.
More than half of global traffic is mobile. Voice searches happen on phones, smart speakers, even smart fridges. If your site isn’t mobile-optimised, Google will notice. And you’ll drop in rankings no matter how great your content is.
If your page is about “dog grooming”, it should naturally mention related ideas, think shampoo, brushing, coat care, breeds, etc.
AI uses these connections to figure out what your page is really about. The more context you give it, the better chance you’ll end up in AI search results.
Optimising your site for AI isn’t about tricking search engines. It’s about clarity, real language, and understanding that people don’t search like robots anymore.
So, here’s a quick summary of what to do:
Whether someone’s reading it, skimming it, or hearing it through a smart speaker, your words need to land.
